Dr. Jonathan Joffe

MBChB 1979 | FCS Ophth (SA) 1990

Following his qualification as an Ophthalmologist in 1990, Dr Joffe relocated to Namibia and served as Head Ophthalmologist at Windhoek Central Hospital from 1991 to 1995. With the vast experience he gained during this time, he established his own private practice in 1995.

 

His keen interest in IT provided a framework for his pioneering work in the field of refractive surgery. The first Excimer laser procedures in Namibia were performed by Dr Joffe in 2000. From 1998 - 2000 he traveled to Cape Town with his patients to perform the procedure there. Dr Joffe was a keen triathlete, marathon runner & squash player.

 

His dedication to general ophthalmology, and special interest in cataract and refractive work, as well as anterior segment surgery, enables him to offer state of the art procedures, including:

 

•   Premium and multifocal intraocular lens implantation following Femto laser assisted cataract surgery

•   Excimer laser refractive surgery (trans-PRK)

•   Corneal transplants, including the latest in lamellar surgery (DALK & DMEK)

•   Intra-corneal ring segments (ICRS)

•   Phakic intraocular lenses (ICL, ICPL, Artisan/Artiflex)

•   Modern glaucoma surgery

 

Dr Jonathan Joffe is the founder and visionary behind the Olympia Eye & Laser Centre.

 

The combination of skilled staff, the latest in diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and technology, and a drive to implement the latest research into the service provided to the Namibian nation, sets OELC apart as a premium eye care centre.

 

Dr Joffe’s membership of the following ophthalmological societies (OSSA, SASCRS, AAO, ASCRS, ESCRS)  is evidence of his dedication to remain a leader in ophthalmology.

 

The recent addition of the Olympia Aesthetic Centre, is creating a new opportunity for patients to experience total body well being.

Dr. Talitha Maritz

 

After having qualified as an Ophthalmologist in 1995, Dr Talitha Maritz first spent two years working in RK Khan Hospital in Durban. Subsequently she moved to Pretoria, practicing at the Pretoria Eye Institute from 1997 to 2005.

Having done her internship in Windhoek earlier and spending 4 years as a Medical Officer at the Windhoek State Hospital, she had come to love Namibia. So, when the opportunity presented itself to obtain employment at OELC in 2005, she did not hesitate to start working there.

This amounts to 25 years of experience in private practice as a general Ophthalmologist. Her special interests are cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma management, retinal diseases as well as paediatric ophthalmology.

Dr Maritz is a member of the South African Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons (SASOPS) and attends its conference annually, as well other congresses in order to stay up to date with the latest trends in her various fields of interest.

Apart from her dedication to her work, she enjoys playing the flute and loves the wilderness. She keeps fit with mountain biking and has completed 2 Nedbank Desert Dash and 2 Wine to Whales events as part of a team so far.

Dr. Sven Obholzer

MBChB (Stell) 2004 | FC Ophth (SA) 2011 | MMed Ophth (Stell) 2012

 

Dr Obholzer graduated with a degree in Ophthalmology from Stellenbosch University in 2012. ​He returned to his home country of Namibia in 2012, and has been working as a consultant Ophthalmologist at the Windhoek Central Hospital since then, providing a comprehensive eye care service to Namibian state patients. He has also provided his services at over 35 cataract surgical outreach campaigns, restoring eyesight to elderly Namibians free of charge.

 

Dr Obholzer joined OELC in 2014.

 

He is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with special interests the following fields:

 

•   Cataract and refractive surgery

•   Anterior segment surgery, including glaucoma procedures

•   Surgical and medical retina

•   Paediatric surgery including squint operations

 

Dr Obholzer attends both international and regional conferences and workshops on a regular basis, returning with valuable knowledge on the latest developments in ophthalmology.

 

He balances his dedication to his work with various sporting activities, including on and offroad triathlon and masters swimming.
